i knew i loved this woman for a reason…
this fashionista.com article names anna wintour one of obama’s “top tier bundlers”, which means she has raised over $500k for his re-election campaign. she has also put together “runway to win” project in which she recruited big name designers (many of whom Michelle Obama has worn) to create items to be sold on the campaign website.”
but there has been controversy surrounding ms. wintour’s most recent show of support - last week she was the subject of a campaign video announcing a contest for potential donors to win the chance to dine with her, sarah jessica parker, and the first couple at a June 14 fundraiser. (OMG, i would die to be at a table with all of them at once…it would be too much, like looking into the sun *deep sigh*)
unfortunately, the video was released on “jobs day” which is the day the latest employment figures were released. unfortunately, the figures weren’t so great, so the timing was less than stellar, and considered a “tactical error” that “came at the worst moment”, since it can be argued that anna wintour is essentially the face of some of the wealthiest people in the world.
of course, republicans had much to say, and glenn beck called the obama campaign “out of touch” and wintour “the devil”. the president was also called “…too elitist…” but in all fairness, the same can be said about romney, who rubs elbows with donald trump and certainly does not live as a pauper. i wonder why it’s okay for him, and not for the obamas? hmmmm. but i digress.
at the end of the day, the obama campaign is smart and knows how to play the game, and they are looking to win women voters. and what better way to do that than through fashion? i think it’s a smart move, and as long as he is breaking any rules, anyone who wants to show support, should be able to do so.
i know one thing, ms. wintour is fierce, and will not be intimidated by the uninformed comments of a few republicans. i hope she publicly responds and tears them all new ones :)
